Taking Japan trip as example...
View below for most common airlines which allow pets to travel in cabin. Flights to Japan mainly are Korean Air, Asiana Airline, and Jeju Air. T'way does not support transiting with a pet and these airlines usually have a stopover in Korea. South Korea is a schedule III country, which requires 30 days quarantine if you have to recheck in at the departure hall.
Other than JEJU air [9kg below with carrier], Asiana and Korean air requires dog to be under 7kg with carrier, and they will weigh so please consider check in your fur buddy if he/she cannot meet the requirement.
We have checked with AVS for connecting flights, as long as you did not enter Korea and just transit in the airport, AVS will consider your trip from Japan.
