This is one of the most important steps of preparation to fly.
As you will never know what your fur buddy needs during the trip. Here are some important items to pack.
- Print more than 1 set of your paperwork and save a digital copy you can access overseas. You may consider scanning the annual vaccination booklet as well as the dog license issue by AVS
[Just in case you lose the original during the trip]
- Medicine and first aid necessities like saline water, styptic powder, disinfectant cream, medicine for diarrhea or anti-itch cream.
- If you are going to a winter country and your fur buddy has little fur, consider getting heat pack, a few clothes suitable for the weather. Shoes if it will snow and ensure they are comfortable wearing it for walks.
- Little trolley or stroller or even a good backpack as some area requires pet in carriers at all times in the area. Or places you will need to walk for long hours.
- If you are going to a hot summer location, consider having a fan and flask to keep water cold for a longer time.
- Make a list of clinics or hospitals near where your accomodation, just in case you need to visit a vet.
Do ensure they take foreigners if you speak a different language as their native language. Some clinics may refuse to take you because of communication issues.
- Check the country regulation if they allow importing overseas protein. Pack their meals and supplement adequately to last the trip or plan ahead where you can purchase their meal once you have reached your destination.
- Muzzle
depends on where you are going some places requires dogs to be muzzle to take a ferry or cable car. Keep it handy just in case your need one for the trip.
- Wet wipes
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Some high value treats if the country allow bringing meal into that country, if not you can consider seafood, fruits or vegetables. Chews to chew on in flight to keep them busy.
- Toys if they are very toy motivated
- Diapers just in case they cannot hold for long hours.
- Ensure you have a gps tag or a name tag with information to contact you in case they decide to wander off.
- Long leash, extra harness or collar in case they may go swim or the current ones got wet and dirty.
- Pee pads if they pee on pee pads at home.
- A bowl for feeding
